How to add a LinkedIn profile to your CRM with your Apollo key

By 2 min read

A LinkedIn profile link on its own is not much of a CRM record: it has no name, title or email until someone opens it. If you use Apollo, Shmor can do that step for you. Add your own Apollo API key, send the link, and Shmor looks the person up and files them in ShmorCRM, Attio or HubSpot with a note and a follow-up task.

Step 1: create an Apollo API key

In Apollo, open the developer dashboard, click API keys and create a key.1 Apollo lets you choose between a scoped key, limited to the endpoints you pick, and a master key.1 Shmor only calls People Enrichment, which matches a person from details such as a LinkedIn URL,2 so a scoped key with that endpoint is enough. Copy the key.

Step 2: add it to Shmor

  1. In Shmor, open Settings.
  2. In the Apollo (optional) card, paste the key into API key and click Save key.

The card then shows Key saved and the key's last 4 characters. The key is encrypted before it is stored and cannot be read back, even by you. Only the account owner can add or remove it.

On Telegram, paste the profile link into the Shmor chat, with a line of context:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/example-profile met her at the product meetup, wants an intro to our CTO, follow up Monday

You can also put the link in an email you forward to in@emails.useshmor.com.

Shmor asks Apollo to match the profile and uses what comes back: name, job title, company and work email. Personal emails and phone numbers are not requested. It then finds or creates the company and person in your CRM, adds the note and creates the follow-up task.

What happens when Apollo has no match

The reply says Apollo had no match for that profile. The LinkedIn URL is still saved on the person, together with anything else in your message. A LinkedIn URL alone is enough for Shmor to save a contact, and you can add the rest by replying to the card, or by sending a screenshot of the profile.

Without an Apollo key

Apollo is optional. Without a key:

  • Shmor makes no lookup;
  • the LinkedIn URL you send is still saved on the person;
  • for the name, title and company, send a screenshot of the profile instead. Shmor reads it like a business card.

Removing the key

Click Remove key in the Apollo card. You can also regenerate or delete the key in Apollo's developer dashboard, which stops it working everywhere.1

Common questions

Do I need an Apollo key to send LinkedIn links?

No. Without a key, Shmor saves the LinkedIn URL on the person but cannot look up their details. Send a screenshot of the profile instead, and Shmor reads the name, title and company from it.

Does Shmor scrape LinkedIn?

No. Shmor never fetches LinkedIn pages. With your key, it asks Apollo to match the profile URL; without one, it only stores the URL you sent.

Whose Apollo credits are used?

Yours. The lookup runs on your Apollo account under your agreement with Apollo.

Can I send several LinkedIn links in one message?

Only the first link in a message is looked up. Send one person per message.
