How to track deals from the people you meet
By Lev Perlman2 min read
Not every person you meet is a deal, but some are, and the moment you know is usually the conversation itself. Shmor can spot when a capture sounds like an opportunity and offer to create the deal there and then, tagged with the service it is about.
Deal suggestions and one-tap deal creation are on Pro, and on the free trial.
Step 1: describe your business
In Settings, About your business is a short description of what you do (up to 500 characters). Shmor uses it to judge which conversations are opportunities. For example:
Fractional CTO and technical due diligence for start-ups and investors.
You can also fill it in during set-up, in the optional About your business step.
Step 2: list the services you sell
On the Integrations page, under Deal settings, choose where Shmor's services come from:
- Use a deal field from your CRM (Attio or HubSpot), so the services match the options you already use;
- Type my own list: services, one per line, up to 30. These go into the deal name only;
- No deal suggestions, to switch the feature off.
Then pick the Stage for new deals, or leave it on your CRM's default.
Shmor only offers a deal when it judges the capture to be an opportunity and you have services set up.
Step 3: capture as usual, then tap
Send the person as you normally would, saying what they need:
Met Alex at the investor breakfast. Their fund needs tech DD on two deals before Christmas. Follow up Monday.
Shmor's reply includes Possible deal, with the services it matched, and two buttons: Create deal and Not a deal. Tap Create deal and the deal is created, linked to the person and company. By email, reply "create a deal" or "not a deal".
Where the deal lands
| CRM | Deal |
|---|---|
| HubSpot | In the pipeline and stage from Deal settings, or the first stage of your first pipeline, associated with the contact and company1 |
| Attio | In the Deals object, with the person, company, owner, stage and services |
| ShmorCRM | On the Deals board, linked to the person and company; drag it between stages as it moves |
Fill your own fields too
Pro also has custom field mapping: up to 10 of your own person fields in Attio or HubSpot that Shmor fills from what you send. For each one, you describe in a sentence what Shmor should put there. That way the fields your pipeline already relies on are filled at capture time.
On Solo
On Solo, captures still create the person, company, note and follow-up task, without deal suggestions. In ShmorCRM, you can still add deals by hand.
