Guide
How to start in ShmorCRM and move to Attio or HubSpot later
By Lev Perlman3 min read
Not everyone who meets a lot of people has a CRM. ShmorCRM is a micro-CRM built into Shmor for exactly that: every new account starts on it, so the first person you send is saved before you connect anything. This guide covers using it well, and moving to Attio or HubSpot when you outgrow it.
Using ShmorCRM from day one
Sign in to Shmor, link Telegram or forward an email, and send someone you met. With ShmorCRM active, the person lands in four tabs:
- People: name, job title, company, emails, phones, LinkedIn, location, Met via, Met at and Met on. Filter by company, how you met, open questions ("Still to ask") or follow-ups.
- Companies: everyone linked to each company.
- Deals: a board you can re-order by drag and drop or with the keyboard, or a table. The default stages are Lead, Qualified, Proposal, Won and Lost.
- Tasks: every follow-up, as open, overdue or done.
Each person and company page has a timeline of captures, notes, tasks and deals. You can also add people, companies, notes, tasks and deals by hand.
In Settings, the ShmorCRM card lets you set up to 20 deal stages and up to 20 custom fields of your own, and choose how long to keep records that have not been updated: until deleted, or 6, 12 or 24 months.
What ShmorCRM stores
For each record, ShmorCRM keeps the text of the message, email or voice transcript behind it. Photos and audio are never stored. See pricing for how many records each plan holds.
When to move to Attio or HubSpot
ShmorCRM is deliberately small. Consider moving when you need:
- reporting, email sequences or automation that a full CRM provides;
- a CRM your colleagues use too;
- more records than your plan's ShmorCRM limit.
Step 1: export everything
In ShmorCRM, click Export all (CSV). You get a ZIP named shmorcrm-export- with the date, containing:
| File | Columns include |
|---|---|
people.csv | First name, Last name, Job title, Company, Emails, Phones, LinkedIn, Location, Met via, Met at, Met on, Source, Shmor ID, then your custom fields |
companies.csv | Name, Domain, Website, Notes, Shmor ID |
deals.csv | Name, Stage, Value (GBP), Services, Person, Company, Shmor ID |
tasks.csv | Task, Due, Completed, Person, Company |
notes.csv | Title, Note, Person, Company |
captures.csv | Received, Channel, Kind, Person, Message text |
Exporting works on any plan, including when ShmorCRM is read-only.
Step 2: connect your new CRM
Connect Attio with a workspace access token, or HubSpot with a service key. See connecting Attio or connecting HubSpot. From that moment, new captures go to the new CRM. Shmor adds its Met via, Met at and Needs info fields as it connects, so you can map your exported columns onto them.
Step 3: import the CSV files
Use your CRM's own importer, companies first, then people, so people can be linked to their companies:
- Attio: use its CSV import for Companies, then People.1
- HubSpot: import the files as companies and contacts, mapping each column to a property.2
Map Met via and Met at to the fields Shmor added, so old and new records use the same fields.
Step 4: tidy up ShmorCRM
After the switch, your ShmorCRM records stay, read-only, and are never copied anywhere. Once you have checked the import, you can delete them all in Settings under Delete all records (type DELETE to confirm), or leave them and let the retention setting remove old ones.
